NAIAS Marks Third Consecutive Day of Exceeding 2010 Attendance
DETROIT, Jan. 17, 2011 - The 2011 North
American International Auto Show (NAIAS) exceeded attendance
figures for a third consecutive day over the 2010 show. Attendance
yesterday, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, was nearly 65,000. To
date, attendance overall is up nearly 20,000 over 2010 Public Show
figures.
"Good weather plus great new vehicles equal enthusiastic crowds
at NAIAS," said Barron Meade, NAIAS Chairman. "We have an
outstanding formula working for us right now and look forward to it
continuing. People are in line every morning waiting for the doors
to the showroom to open."
Below is a brief overview of some activities planned during the
NAIAS Public Show.
- WEDNESDAY: NAIAS Education Day: A World of
Opportunities: Presented by State Farm Insurance. Opening
remarks, 8:30AM-10:00AM in Cobo Arena. School groups in grades 9-12
and college level will have the unique opportunity to explore
automotive career paths and learn about trends in the auto
industry. Students will then be invited to visit NAIAS exhibits on
the show floor to speak with representatives about automotive
career information in small groups and one-on-one discussions. From
10:00AM-3:00PM, representatives will have activities to keep
students involved while actively teaching topics such as
technology, automotive design, engineering, or environmental
concerns.
- WEDNESDAY: Courageous Persuaders Press
Conference: Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson and
Detroit Auto Dealers Association president James Seavitt will hold
a press conference from 10:00-10:15AM at the Secretary of State
exhibit area located on the main Cobo concourse (across from the
Oakland Hall entrance). Courageous Persuaders is a program in which
high school students create videos to warn middle school students
about the dangers of underage drinking. Students in 7th and
8th grades judge entries for effectiveness and those whose videos
that are rated highest can earn scholarships.
- FRIDAY: The Detroit Tigers Winter Caravan: The
Detroit Tigers' fan rally, including an interactive Q&A
session, takes place Friday, January 21, 2011. The rally and
Q&A will occur at 4:00PM in the Chevrolet exhibit.
- FRIDAY: Channel 7 (WXYZ-TV) Family Day at the Auto
Show: There will be musical performances, giveaways and a
chance to meet Channel 7 on-air talent.
Stay tuned and visit www.naias.com for more details as they become
available.
