A Two-Week Celebration of the Industry!

NAIAS 2014 Readies World Stage for Global Vehicle Introductions

With the days counting down, NAIAS 2014 is rounding out its list of dozens of worldwide vehicle introductions, including debuts in nearly all vehicle categories—concepts, luxury, sports/performance, crossovers, trucks, SUVs and alternative fuel technologies. The long list of intros comes after numerous meetings with global manufacturers in Detroit, Los Angeles, Geneva and Frankfurt, where NAIAS officials reported back an impressive lineup of confirmed vehicles that automakers plan to show for the first time anywhere. In fact, thus far, 18 automakers have confirmed worldwide vehicle debuts (some multiple). The backdrop for these vehicle reveals will be the more than 30 press conferences planned in the impressively transformed Cobo Center. For the past 25 years, manufacturers from across the globe have designated NAIAS as the venue of choice for worldwide and North American vehicle unveilings, new exhibits, and breakthrough product technology. NAIAS 2014 is no exception. The product unveilings are on their way to Detroit’s world stage, and NAIAS 2014 is anxiously awaiting their arrival.

Michelin Media Center Grows in 2014

Always improving to better serve the global media, the Michelin Media Center will expand to over 31,000 square feet, including the TVS Broadcast Center. Located in Michigan Hall for the second year, the media center will add another 120 work carrels for NAIAS credentialed media, bringing the total number of seats to 1,200. In addition, Michelin Media Live will provide live, real-time updates to journalists as well as a wealth of other resources, including 360-degree videos and photos. Michelin has been a significant and valued partner of the NAIAS since the very beginning. The company pledged its support in 1989 as the show was making the transition from local Detroit Auto Show to globally recognized NAIAS. That first Michelin Media Center was just 11,000 square feet with 200 seats. Since that first NAIAS, the Michelin Media Center has hosted more than 125,000 media. That’s enough to fill Comerica Park, Ford Field and Joe Louis Arena! Michelin was also the first non-OEM to participate in NAIAS.

Cobo Unveils "Crown Jewel" of Transformation

Visitors to NAIAS will be among the first to see one of the centerpieces of Cobo Center’s $279 million capital improvements project, the new Grand Riverview Ballroom. The spectacular 40,000-square-foot ballroom and accompanying 21,000 square feet of new meeting space on the level below were all created through adaptive reuse of what was once Cobo Arena. The ballroom, with its panoramic views, features a hydraulic stage lift (perfect for press conference reveals), a 40-foot-high ceiling with dramatic color-programmable LED lighting and theater-style seating for up to 3,500. The Cobo Atrium is also now finished and will take center stage at NAIAS during both preview week and public days. On the horizon for Cobo: a television production studio, state-of-the-art production kitchen, food court, cyber café and an underground parking garage.
